Emory Integrated Memory Care Earns National Recognition
We’re proud to announce that Emory Integrated Memory Care (IMC) has been named an Edge Runner by the American Academy of Nursing, a prestigious honor celebrating nurse-led innovations that enhance care quality, reduce costs, promote equity, and elevate patient satisfaction.
Founded in 2015 through collaboration between the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and Emory Healthcare, IMC is the only primary care practice in the U.S. tailored specifically for individuals living with dementia. Today, it operates both at the Emory Brain Health Center in Brookhaven and across 24 senior living communities in Atlanta, serving over 3,000 patients.
Thanks to its nurse-led, interprofessional model, IMC has maintained a remarkably low ambulatory care–sensitive hospitalization rate (<2%), compared to a national average of 13–15% for dementia patients. The model also recently became part of a pilot Medicare Alternative Payment Model for dementia care, setting the stage for broader impact.
Congratulations to the entire IMC team, for this well-deserved accolade. Your innovative leadership continues to transform dementia care and embody the superpower of nursing.
