The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has awarded its Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP) to Kristy Martyn, PhD, RN, CPNP-PC, FAAN, Professor and Associate Dean for Education with Emory University's Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing (ESON).
The HRSA award will provide one year of over $1.5 million in funding to increase the number of qualified nursing faculty. The NFLP provides funding to accredited schools of nursing to establish and operate a student loan fund for students enrolled in advanced education nursing degree programs who are committed to becoming nurse faculty. In exchange for completion of up to four years of post-graduation full-time nurse faculty employment in an accredited school of nursing, the program authorizes the cancellation of up to 85 percent of the original student loan amount (plus interest thereon).
Dr. Martyn is a professor, tenured, who received her PhD in Nursing Science at University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida in 1998. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in 2013, a member of the inaugural American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Health Policy Advisory Council, and a member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) Research Committee. Dr. Martyn is an editorial board member for Qualitative Health Research, Global Qualitative Nursing Research, Journal of Pediatric Health Care, and Journal of School of Nursing.
