March is Theater in Our Schools Month, and City Schools students engaged with one of the most iconic playwrights - Shakespeare! At the Citywide Shakespeare Festival hosted by the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company's performance space, Roland Park students showcased their talents with a rendition of "The Tempest." Patterson students participated by creating set and costume designs, which they proudly presented during the festival. This hands-on experience allowed students to engage with Shakespeare's timeless themes and provided a platform for their creative expression within the theatrical realm.

The Family Community Engagement team hosted a Family Learning event titled "SUCCESS ON TESTS: Building Bridges of Understanding" specifically geared towards multilingual families. Through interactive workshops, informative sessions, and open dialogue, attendees were empowered with insights and resources to better support their children's academic journey. |

Augusta Fells Art students opened a gallery art exhibit on the the birthdate of Augusta Fells to celebrate their hard work. The school hosted a school-wide event where the student body could engage with the artwork during the school day and then an after-school reception for students, families, and school partners. Bard Baltimore hosted the University of MD's Shock Trauma ThinkFirst last week in Mr. Sell's Health Classes. This lecture is based on teen safety in driving, and the students were given information on safer driving practices and Shock Trauma. Thanks to Stacy Ruhling, their Community School Coordinator, for organizing the event! |

In March, City School joins the nationwide celebration of National Athletic Training Month, acknowledging and honoring the dedicated athletic trainers across America. These professionals play a vital role in promoting injury prevention, fostering overall health, and encouraging an active lifestyle.
City Schools is actively contributing to this cause by strategically placing athletic trainers in high schools. With a commitment to student well-being, the institution has already hired ten skilled trainers who will bring their expertise to the forefront. This initiative aligns with the broader mission of ensuring the safety and health of students participating in various athletic activities. |

Baltimore hosted the incredible B.A.P Union, a 379-foot, four-masted flagship vessel and training ship of the Peruvian Navy, and Crossroads students took the tour. This is the second largest vessel in the world, and students had the opportunity to learn more meaningfully about Perú, its gastronomy, and traditions. |

Eighth-grade students at Calvin M. Rodwell are learning all about Shakespeare. Literacy teacher Dr. Freter and her students are engaging with the text, responding in writing, and having a great time acting out "A Midsummer Night's Dream" - all the while asking "What is love?" |

During Read Across America Week, Mrs. Naughten and Ms. Barbie’s pre-K class at Hamilton learned about Nigeria and the wild animals that live there. They then decorated their door to show the animals they learned about! |
| Ms. Gomez' second-grade Spanish immersion class at BIA has been working on math in small groups. Students have been learning about money management and fractions.

Custis Bay fourth-grade students invited the pre-K and kindergarten students to their class to show their projects for a unit entitled "How Fast is too Fast?" This gave the fourth-grade students the opportunity to teach the younger students the concepts they learned about in science and safety. |
|
Congratulations to Design School middle school students on completing their Measuring Challenge Week with the Design department! Overall, students improved 10% in their measuring expertise over the week. A special shout out to 601, 703, and 802 for being the classes with the most growth over the week. |

For Pi Day, William Paca hosted a successful Math Night! Parents and scholars had a great time exploring various math stations and learning valuable strategies to enhance their mathematical skills. It was a fun and educational evening for all involved! |

Henderson-Hopkins students celebrated Pi Day with Johns Hopkins University's Vivien Thomas students! They measured the diameter of a bubble and created 3.14-themed friendship bracelets. |
|
BIA West's second-grade Spanish Immersion students participated in a host of Pi-themed activities, including crafting dream catchers to explore the concept of circumference. |
|
At Empowerment Academy, Ms. Aleks’ third-grade students created pi chains to replicate all the numerals in pi. The team that made the longest chain with the most numbers, won! |

ConneXions hosted its Annual Transition and Career Fair, which numerous organizations and community partners attended. The event featured on-the-spot hiring opportunities for juniors and seniors. Additionally, one community partner assisted students with resume and cover letter writing. |

Baltimore Collegiate eighth-grade students presented their clothing brand, “Cozy Collegiate,” at the Junior Achievement Competition. They've been creating this business with the help of Junior Achievement of Central Maryland. They are partnering with Herman's Discount, one of the local uniform suppliers, to produce their original designs. |

City College's Advising Office hosted over 100 students and parents at their first College Admissions Symposium for the Class of 2025. Families attended workshops hosted by experts in the college admissions process and topics included applying to highly selective colleges, the digital SAT, and the HBCU experience. |

Coppin Academy hosted a Community Night with food and an Eagles Fest Basketball Event. |
| NAF hosted a Pop-Up Shop for scholars to grab dresses for prom and other special occasions. The shop was supported by the school's community partners. |

Let’s Grow, pre-K, and kindergarten students from Edgewood worked with Art teacher Christine Bole to create a tribute to their dedicated paraeducator Ms. Rhonda Schenck who passed away in February. She worked with them and utilized their individual art pieces to create a wall mural to honor her for all to see. |

| School Librarians from across the district visited the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. They received "reader cards" to access the collection and enter the restricted research rooms. It was an amazing day of scholarship and camaraderie.

Chris Mandra, who teaches Computer Science at Mervo, co-created a video game called "Direct Drive." Previously featured in Winning Wednesday, the game was recently also
awarded the Playdate Community Awards "Best Soundtrack" for 2024 (which is a soundtrack Mandra wrote, performed, recorded, mixed and produced). |

| Congratulations to our two MD State Basketball Champions! Edmondson-Westside Boys claimed the 1A State title, while Poly's Girls team secured the 3A State title. Congratulations also to Carver's Boys team for competing in the State Championships.

Congratulations to Baltimore City College’s Speech and Debate Teams, which clinched two State Championships! The Policy Debate team secured the State title for the second year running, and Christian Holmes and Amber Brawner won the championship in Duo Interpretation. City College teams will be heading to Chicago for the NCFL Grand National Tournament. |
