Several of our schools joined the Ravens Caw to Action, a community service day in partnership with United Way.

 

Ravens players stopped to read to students at Bay-Brook, while Cecil, Beechfield, and Patterson found other ways to participate.

Good luck to Poly student Salloni Gill, who was invited to the prestigious 2023 PURE Insurance Championship Impacting First Tee. The competition will take place from September 22-24 at Pebble Beach and will be televised on the Golf Channel.

Reading is Fundamental and Amazon donated 1,500 books to Creative City students. Over 20 volunteers showed up to host a Books for Ownership event where all students were able to choose three books to add to their home libraries.

Thank you to everyone who made our Passport for Learning events successful! Two events held at the B&O and Port Discovery connected families with back-to-school supplies, resources, and information.

Highlandtown #237 had a full house for their back-to-school night!

City Schools attenDANCE challenge is still going strong as we encourage students to attend school every day. The latest videos had over 40,000 views on social media this week!

Design School senior architecture students took over Principal Brozene's parking spot. They built a collaborative Park(ing) Day mini park, designed by students Camryn Griffin and Da'len Reeves, for International Park(ing) day. The Baltimore Sun and WMAR were on hand to report on their work.

Hospitality students from NAF joined Councilman Robert Stokes in hosting a special Jazz and Lunch event for senior citizens at Waters Towers.

Furley hosted their back-to-school night for families. Families met their student's teacher and received information about curriculum and school culture.

Gardenville has a new restorative lounge, courtesy of The Movement Team, where students can visit when they need to reflect, calm down, and receive support. 

Over 1,000 students have been immunized at the free immunization clinics held at the district office. We're still holding them until September 29, so if you know a family that needs immunizations they can sign up on our website.

Fourth- and fifth-graders from Clay Hill learned about puppets and created their own to take to the Walk with Little Amal at City Hall. Little Amal is a 12-foot puppet walking 6,000 miles to raise awareness about the many children fleeing war, violence, and persecution.

 

Lakeland student government elections are around the corner and the students made fantastic campaign posters!

Carver's back-to-school night included a resource fair from partners and community organizations.

Fall sports are underway across City Schools including soccer at Benjamin Franklin. (Spoiler alert: they won the game!)

Charm City Virtual hosted an in-person family movie night.

Meet Cupcake and Blueberry, the new class pets at Ms. Mente’s kindergarten class at James McHenry.

At Holabird, students are taking a resource class where they practice, develop and apply mindfulness and fitness practices. 

Career Academy students in Ms. Ruby's class worked on measuring and mechanics in their distance and displacement lab!

Augusta Fells student Tylajae shows off the mixed media mask she made in her AP 3D art class.

BLSYW students transformed their geometric constructions into art.

Edmonson-Westside students plan for new outdoor projects while enjoying trees that Environmental Science students planted 10 years ago.

Hamilton's first-grade students investigated seeds in Nature Exploration.

Forest Park AP students work on binary code, the foundation of computer science.

At Federal Hill, Ms. Lannigan's fifth-grade students and Ms. Miklewski's kindergarteners kicked off their book buddies program.

At Roland Park, Mrs. Cummins' class does a fun activity every Friday to help build relationships and promote learning! Students worked in teams to take a marble from one side of the classroom to the other. 

Patterson Park students are diving into the world of neurographic art with help from grad students from MICA.

Western launched a new Personal Finance class this year! Over 300 students have registered for the course.

 
College and Career Readiness
 

Booker T. Washington staff and students celebrated Football Friday by wearing team jerseys and shirts!

Rosemont celebrated Purple Friday to support the Ravens!

Every week, Vivien T. Thomas celebrates Terrific Tie Tuesday. Staff members model professional dress for students and look good doing it!

To celebrate "Talk Like a Pirate Day." Francis Scott Key's speech-language pathologist, Ms. Hoback, created a scavenger hunt for teacher Mr. Dalang's citywide program students. The activity required problem-solving skills and teamwork!

Buckngrill stopped by Youth Opportunity to provide lunches for staff and students.

Saturday Night Live star Ego Nwodim and her brother, Dr. Emeka Nwodim, an orthopedic surgeon, spoke to City Springs middle grade students about pursuing their dreams. Ego also taught an improv class and talked with staff about how improv can help student engagement.

Author Tanisia Moore visited Moravia Park to read from her new children's book, "I Am My Ancestor's Wildest Dreams." Every student received a signed copy.

The third City Schools FACE Fellowship Cohort kicked off at Carver. This yearlong program helps school communities collaboratively create School-Family-Community Partnership Plans.
